Memory and Money - What You See Is What You Get

Your Brain does not know the difference between what it sees and what it remembers.

Everytime I consider this scientific fact, I am awed.

The immediate result is that I start paying way more attention to my thoughts. And then I start to realize. This means that every time I have a conversation, watch a program, listen to the news, write an email, read a book – my brain thinks it’s really happening.

So, the emotional rollercoaster of the average movie experience is total reality to your brain. Your total recall of the movie creates the same chemical reactions. Talking to a friend about the movie, also results in a virtual reality replay. As does daydreaming about certain parts of the film.

News events are also real. Watching the current bad news of the day causes your brain to release stress hormones. Worrying about the news while you’re eating dinner is no different. Talking to friends about the latest disaster or political squabble also brings it all back to life.

And those are just outside events.

Then I look at my life. My mind has a vast storage of memories. What’s incredible is that, when I recall any memory no matter how trivial, it has the same effect on my brain as experiencing that event for the first time right now.

My brain does not know the difference between Now and the memories of yesteryear.

    Wow.

How thrilling. How awe-inspiring. This is so huge, so incredibly life-changing that I sometimes need to catch my breath just considering the implications. Let me phrase it a different way.

My natural reflexes, my habits are dependent on the amount of attention I choose to give them.

You can stop any addiction by applying the law of non-attention. Change the topic in your head. Power up a new thought. Every time that old habit rears its ugly face, interrupt it. Pay absolutely no attention to it.

If you do this on a daily basis, you are rewiring your brain.

In the same way you can focus your full attention on what you Want to experience. I have been doing daily morning bodyweight exercises and magnetic Qi Gong for over a year now. It took a few months before the habit was one that I couldn’t live without. Just like eating. Or sleeping.

I rewired my brain. Laziness was ignored. My love for exercise became my new habit. Attention was first denied and then re-applied. This works!

I was also able to put a stop to another life-depleting habit. Watching and listening to the news every day. This one took just as much diligence. Consider that I was a subscriber to the NY Times since my freshman year in college. Before that, I read the paper at home every day. Now, I get weather and environmental updates from others. But I haven’t watched or listened for many months. And it feels great.

How do you apply this to attracting a life of wealth?

Stop worrying about your finances. Put an end to any thoughts about stress and money. Instead, focus your mind on doing something about your financial situation. See yourself as wealthy. Live that life in your mind – your brain will feel every moment of joy you experience. Keep that focus every day and you’re on your way to riches.

Always interrupt any thoughts about what is keeping you unhealthy emotionally, physically and spiritually. Then you’re no longer functioning on automatic. Be fully aware of everything your thinking about all day. A world of joy and money is knocking on the gateway of your beautiful mind.
